Gridview Whoa what a waste the last three hours have ultimately been... the View state is disabled because I need the the Grid View to be displayed even when there is no data. I have a databound control that has the datasource set dynamically. I have a button inside a row with the command name set to ' Update'. All I want to do is execute a stored proc (SQL Server) whenever the user clicks "Update" (Auto Generate Edit Button="true") but, when the user clicks "Update" (after clicking "Edit"), Row Updating does not fire. I got to the point where I thought I'd just try random things. The first thing I tried was setting Enable View State to true on the grid (I'd switched it off previously). When the row is in edit mode i display a checkbox and textbox. I ran the app and lo and behold, my Row Updating event handler fired! I'm manually wiring up a Grid View control in my app, but the Row Updating doesn't fire when clicking Update. It's as if the Grid View thinks the first link button in the row that was clicked, "Update", is actually "Edit", which is also the first control in the row.
Basically, it doesn't remember that it's in edit mode.
